The CT 200h benefits from a new platform incorporating numerous, exclusively developed body, chassis and Lexus Hybrid Drive engineering applications designed to offer customers a choice of distinct driving modes: Sport, when the driver wants a more dynamic experience, or Normal, Eco, or EV to satisfy more typical day-to-day driving needs.

Supplementing the Normal drive mode of the new Lexus full hybrid compact’s seamless, Electronically-Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT), three drive modes may be selected to fit the driver’s needs or mood, while further improving either performance and dynamic ability, or driving efficiency, fuel economy and emissions.

With vehicle range dictated by battery charge, the EV drive mode allows for comfortable urban driving with minimal noise, and zero NOx and particulate emissions. Because the gas engine is switched off throughout its operation, the EV drive mode contributes to a significant reduction in the new Lexus’ overall fuel consumption.

A glance at the points’ table shows that René Rast (Germany) is the clear favourite. Driving for Al Faisal Lechner Racing, the four-time winner this season leads by a 14-point advantage. On paper, this means that if Nicholas Tandy from Great Britain secures his third win of the season for his Konrad Motorsport squad, plus the two extra points for pole position, then René Rast would need to finish at least eighth to take the title.

Despite the difficult situation he faces, Nicholas Tandy is not yet throwing in the towel. Earlier this season he already clinched the BBS Rookie Classification as the best Supercup newcomer. But that’s not enough. “I want the title,” he says, “and one thing is certain. It’s not over until the flag drops. As long as I have even the slightest chance to win then I’ll do everything to do it. And my team will be supporting me every step of the way.”

René Rast knows that under normal circumstances not a lot can go wrong in Monza. But, considering the large grid line-up at the last race of the season, he is not willing to place all his bets on the title. “There are 32 drivers at the start, most of them eager to win or at least finish on the podium. I’m expecting a lot of action on the track,” says last year’s winner in Monza. His tactic: “To start as far up the grid as possible and keep out of any trouble. Then it should work. In any case, I’m feeling confident.”

Despite their comfortable margin, the 2010 Le Mans winners are not about to take the race in Silverstone lightly. “Right here last year we experienced just how hard it can be when you’re a hair’s breadth away from winning the title. “The car industry has suffered enormously because of the financial and economic crisis”, said László Andor, EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion. He added: “We welcome the Spanish application for EGF funding and I am confident that the planned measures funded through the EGF will help these workers find a new job quickly”.

The Spanish application relates to 2,330 redundancies in 23 enterprises operating in the automotive sector. The dismissals were a consequence of the serious impact that the global financial and economic crisis has had on demand for vehicles in Spain and in its export markets. In 2008 new car registrations in Spain declined by 28 % compared with the previous year, mainly due to tight credit conditions, low consumer confidence and declining purchasing power. Moreover, the global nature of the crisis also led to a sales drop of 9.6 % for vehicles manufactured in Spain and sold outside the country.

All the redundancies covered by this application occurred in autonomous region of Catalonia. The number of dismissals compared with the previous year, had increased by 42 % in 2008 and by 157 % in 2009 in the Catalonian automotive sector.
